Ants in my Pants… errr Plants! ;-)
We’ve had a couple of days of showers which is cool ‘cos it’s the first rain in 3 weeks! Whatever happened to ‘April Showers’? Anyway, ‘cos of the showers I haven’t been to check on the garden so went up there yesterday to find this…
WTF!!?? On closer examination it was what looked like a motorway for ants! They were their just scurrying up and down, not carrying anything, just running up and down the motorway.

So, I need to investigate if they are going to cause me any problems! I know that they love the secretions of aphids, so I must keep the aphids down, not a problem just yet.
They can also ruin any roots if the roots get in the way of their motorway, they won’t move around it If I ask them nicely
I’m not going to spray any insecticides, it’s organic or nothing. I have sprinkled some ground pepper on the motorway but it only got rid of them for a minute or so! I’ve heard a couple of other ways is to find the nest and destroy it. You can find the nest by leaving sugar close by and watching for the trail of sugar to lead you to the nest, neat idea. Essential oils are said to be good to get rid of them, the likes of eucalyptus, tea tree or peppermint. Spraying with a washing up liquid solution is something else I’ll try.
Luckily I brought back some frog spawn from the house in Leeds and put it in a makeshift pond so the ants will have a predator in the frogs when they are grown!
